Malaysia Launches AI-Powered System to Verify and Authenticate Quran Publications

Malaysia’s Home Ministry has launched the AI-powered Intelligence Tashih Al-Quran (iTAQ) system, designed to accelerate and enhance the accuracy, authenticity, and efficiency of Quran verification and publication. The system helps minimise errors while supporting strict quality standards.

Hawzah News Agency- The iTAQ system uses AI algorithms to enhance the efficiency, consistency and reliability of Quran text verification processes. It ensures that every printed copy of the Quran adheres to strict quality and authenticity standards by automating comparison and validation procedures traditionally carried out manually.

The system detects variations, typographical errors or other inconsistencies that may compromise accuracy. This automation helps minimise human oversight while supporting compliance with Islamic regulations governing the publication and distribution of Quranic texts.

Officials highlighted that innovations such as iTAQ are part of a broader digital transformation effort within public administration, where intelligent systems are increasingly employed to improve transparency and operational performance.

In this case, the technology allows for faster review cycles, systematic documentation and more efficient resource allocation within the Quran verification process. By integrating AI into these procedures, the ministry aims to reduce verification time while maintaining the highest possible standards of textual integrity.

Beyond basic verification, the iTAQ platform forms part of a wider digital ecosystem designed to maintain Quranic integrity across the entire publishing and licensing lifecycle.

The introduction of iTAQ is therefore viewed as a safeguard, designed to complement human expertise and protect against errors that could affect both the accuracy of recitation and public understanding of the Quran.

Between January and September this year, authorities confiscated over 53,000 Quranic texts and materials found in violation of the Printing of Quranic Texts Act 1986. During this period, 295 investigation papers were opened, with 201 of those cases recorded during Ramadan.

Collectively, these measures illustrate a comprehensive and forward-looking strategy to preserve the Quran’s sanctity in the digital age. The integration of AI technologies, coupled with professional capacity-building and targeted enforcement, underscores a systematic approach to maintaining both accuracy and reverence in Quranic publication.
